Size & Hanging Guide

A shield looks best when its size suits the wall and it hangs at a comfortable height. These notes will help you pick a size and put it up in a few minutes.

Our sizes

  • 23 inches (58 cm): offices, shelves, hallways and smaller walls.
  • 26 inches (66 cm): living rooms, studies and bedrooms. Our most chosen size.
  • 29 inches (74 cm): a centrepiece for a large wall, a stairwell or the space above a fireplace.

Choosing for your wall

A simple rule: wall art over furniture looks balanced when it is about half to two thirds as wide as the piece below it. Above a 1.5 metre sofa, a 26 or 29 inch shield fits well. On a narrow wall or above a desk, the 23 inch size keeps things in proportion.

Not sure? Cut a circle of the same size from paper or cardboard and tape it to the wall for a day. You will know quickly which size feels right.

How high to hang it

Aim for the centre of the shield to sit at about eye level, roughly 145 to 155 cm (57 to 61 inches) from the floor. Above furniture, leave 20 to 30 cm between the top of the furniture and the bottom of the shield.

Hanging it

  1. Mark the spot for the hanger with a small piece of painter's tape.
  2. Use the hardware in the box. On plasterboard, use a wall anchor rated well above the weight shown on the product page.
  3. Hang the shield, step back and check it with a spirit level or a phone level.

Display ideas

  • Above a fireplace or a reading chair.
  • Two designs side by side, such as the raven and the wolf, with a hand's width between them.
  • On a mantel or a deep shelf, leaning on a plate stand.
  • In a hallway or up a staircase, where it catches the eye as people pass.
